About the Role
Value Logistics is seeking a highly skilled Workshop Manager to maximise service, sales, and profitability through efficient workshop operations, staff management, and customer satisfaction. The role focuses on optimising productivity, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring smooth workshop performance across all operational areas.
The Workshop Manager will oversee staff, resources, and workflows to ensure vehicles are serviced accurately, on time, and in line with manufacturer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Management
- Supervise and coach workshop staff to foster a customer-focused environment
- Manage staff attendance, productivity, and efficiency
- Ensure adherence to dress code and PPE requirements
- Identify training needs and facilitate staff development
- Conduct performance appraisals and regular feedback sessions
- Lead staff meetings and maintain clear communication with teams
Workshop Operations & Work in Progress (WIP)
- Plan daily WIP and monitor workshop capacity
- Ensure workshop productivity and efficiency are optimised
- Collaborate with Service Advisors and Parts department to ensure parts availability
- Ensure all vehicles are serviced according to OE service schedules and requirements
- Maintain smooth workshop operations and efficient resource utilisation
Customer Service
- Keep internal and external customers updated on vehicle progress
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally
Workshop Administration
- Ensure accurate data input in Embrace, including hour readings, job start/end dates, fault codes, and job types
- Adhere to all administrative SOPs and maintain accurate job card documentation
- Manage quotations from preferred suppliers for outsourced work and ensure timely processing
- Sign off job cards and ensure recovery billing is invoiced correctly
- Submit all required reports to management as scheduled
Reporting & Asset Management
- Pull and investigate open job card and purchase order reports daily to ensure accuracy
- Manage and maintain all workshop assets, reporting any damage or loss
- Oversee asset disposal in line with SOPs and authority schedules
Recoveries & Warranty Claims
- Ensure proper recoveries and warranty processes are followed and documented
Financial & Quality Management
- Manage workshop operations within budget and cost-effective practices
- Report on profit and loss statements as required
- Conduct spot checks to ensure service quality standards are met
- Ensure all tools and equipment are available and properly maintained
Apprentice Programme
- Manage and oversee the apprentice programme across all workshops nationally
General Responsibilities
- Maintain professional conduct and adhere to company dress code
- Assist with operational tasks as required
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure Health and Safety compliance daily
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- 3–5 years’ experience in workshop or field service management
- Diesel mechanic qualification advantageous
Skills & Competencies
- Strong staff management and leadership skills
- Excellent organisational and administrative abilities
- Financial and budget management experience
- Knowledge of vehicle servicing, maintenance, and workshop operations
- Ability to maintain high quality, safety, and productivity standards
