Purpose of the Job
Value Logistics is looking for a capable Warehouse Supervisor to oversee and manage the complete picking process and inventory control within the warehouse. The role involves supervising a team of permanent and outsourced pickers to ensure that operational procedures are consistently followed, productivity targets are achieved, and customer orders are picked accurately and on time. The Warehouse Supervisor also supports the broader warehouse team by maintaining discipline, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Supervise, guide, and support both permanent and outsourced picking staff
- Maintain a disciplined, controlled, and efficient working environment
- Conduct daily staff check-ins to review productivity, progress, and challenges
- Ensure all picking activities follow established warehouse procedures and standards
- Confirm that pickers follow system-driven processes and collect stock from the correct locations
- Perform random checks on items and quantities to ensure high levels of picking accuracy
- Monitor productivity to ensure picking targets are consistently achieved
- Work closely with warehouse planners to align picking operations with dispatch schedules
- Ensure orders are completed on time to prevent delays, avoid additional transport costs, and maintain customer satisfaction
- Monitor warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and handheld scanners to ensure they are functioning correctly
- Ensure all administrative processes within the picking area are followed correctly
- Provide daily reports on productivity, progress, delays, operational challenges, and accuracy levels
- Maintain accurate records of employee performance and any process deviations
Warehouse Supervision
- Lead, train, and motivate the picking team to achieve operational targets
- Enforce company policies, health and safety regulations, and disciplinary procedures
- Conduct regular team meetings and toolbox talks to encourage communication and continuous improvement
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare daily and weekly reports covering productivity, accuracy, and inventory performance
- Track key performance indicators such as order accuracy, picking timelines, and stock discrepancies
- Maintain documentation required for internal reviews and external audits
Health and Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards at all times
- Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions where necessary
- Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free work environment
Housekeeping
- Ensure the warehouse remains clean, organized, and safe at all times
- Keep aisles, picking zones, and storage areas clear of obstacles and hazards
- Implement and enforce daily housekeeping schedules for warehouse staff
- Monitor hygiene and safety standards including proper waste and packaging disposal
- Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential safety or cleanliness issues
- Ensure tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment are stored properly and kept in good condition
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred
- Experience in picking operations within a warehouse environment
- Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role
Skills Requirements
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems, MS Office, and inventory control processes
- Good literacy and numerical skills
- Strong planning, coordination, and organizational abilities
