Value Vacancies – Tyre Maintenance Controller
Tyre Maintenance Controller – Purpose of the Role
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for conducting routine tyre maintenance, tyre surveys, and breakdown support across multiple sites for the Value vehicle fleet. This role ensures tyre safety, compliance, and optimal fleet readiness through accurate inspections, maintenance, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
- Ensure all tyre stock is securely locked and safeguarded at all times
- Assist with daily investigations and reporting of stock discrepancies
- Support monthly tyre cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
- Travel to designated sites as required to conduct tyre inspections
- Prioritise tyre maintenance and surveys according to the fleet list provided
- Perform daily tyre surveys using the approved tyre management system, with manual documentation when systems are offline
- Capture accurate survey data including tyre brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressures, and tread depth readings
- Ensure all fleet vehicles and spare wheels are surveyed monthly
- Report missing spare wheels to the supervisor and mark spare rims for easy identification
- Torque wheel nuts correctly and ensure wheel nut indicators are fitted where required
- Photograph scrap tyres and submit evidence to the supervisor
- Provide daily feedback to the supervisor on vehicles surveyed, tyre issues identified, and outstanding work
Tyre Branding
- Identify tyres without brand numbers and report findings
- Brand tyres according to the approved tyre branding list
Tyre Replacement
- Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres in line with SOPs
- Complete tyre change slips accurately and within required timeframes
- Submit completed tyre change slips to the supervisor daily
Tyre Rotation
- Rotate tyres according to matching tread patterns and specifications
- Accurately complete and submit tyre change documentation daily
Breakdown Support
- Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is stocked with correct tyre sizes and quantities
- Attend tyre-related breakdowns promptly and with urgency
- Handle breakdowns in compliance with all road safety and driving regulations
- Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation
- Return removed tyres to the depot and hand over tyres and documentation to the supervisor
Company Equipment & Assets
- Secure tyre maintenance tablets and equipment when not in use
- Complete daily vehicle checklists and submit them for filing
- Ensure company vehicles are parked, locked, and keys secured after each shift
- Report all vehicle accidents or damages immediately
- Maintain all tools and equipment in good working order
- Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists and report defective tools
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area and company vehicle at all times
Health & Safety
- Comply with all health and safety rules and procedures
- Use prescribed PPE at all times
- Report health and safety concerns and near misses immediately
General Duties
- Adhere to all company procedures and policies, including SOPs, training, HR policies, POPIA, dress code, smoking, and attendance requirements
- Assist with additional operational requirements when needed
- Be available for weekend work as operationally required
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Code B driver’s licence
- 1–2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
