Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics

Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for performing routine tyre maintenance, tyre surveys, and breakdown support across multiple sites for the Value Logistics vehicle fleet. This role ensures tyre safety, compliance, and optimal vehicle performance through accurate inspections, timely repairs, and effective reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Tyre Stock Control

• Ensure tyre stock is securely locked and safeguarded at all times
• Assist with daily discrepancy investigations and reporting
• Participate in monthly tyre cycle counts

Tyre Surveys and Inspections

• Travel to designated sites as required to conduct tyre surveys
• Prioritise inspections and maintenance based on the fleet list provided by the supervisor
• Perform daily tyre surveys using the approved tyre management system, with manual records when systems are offline
• Accurately capture tyre data including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth
• Ensure all vehicles and spare wheels are surveyed monthly and tyre pressures are corrected
• Report missing spare wheels and spray spare rims for easy identification
• Torque wheel nuts correctly and ensure wheel nut indicators are fitted
• Replace missing wheel nut indicators as required
• Photograph scrap tyres and submit records to the supervisor
• Provide daily feedback to the supervisor on vehicles surveyed, tyre defects identified, and productivity

Tyre Branding

• Identify and report tyres without brand numbers
• Brand tyres in accordance with the approved tyre listing

Tyre Replacement and Repairs

• Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres in line with standard operating procedures
• Complete tyre change documentation accurately and within required timeframes
• Submit completed tyre change slips daily

Tyre Rotation

• Rotate tyres according to tread matching requirements
• Complete and submit tyre change documentation accurately and on time

Breakdown Support

• Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is equipped with the correct tyres and quantities
• Attend to tyre-related breakdowns promptly and with urgency
• Operate in full compliance with company driving rules and road safety regulations
• Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation for all tyres removed or fitted
• Return damaged or punctured tyres to the depot and hand over documentation to the supervisor

Company Equipment and Assets

• Secure tyre maintenance tablets when not in use and at the end of each shift
• Complete daily vehicle checklists and submit for filing
• Ensure company vehicles are parked, locked, and keys secured after each shift
• Report all accidents, incidents, and vehicle damage immediately
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
• Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists and report defective tools

Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean and tidy work area and company vehicle at all times

Health and Safety Compliance

• Adhere to all occupational health and safety regulations
• Use prescribed personal protective equipment at all times
• Report health and safety incidents and near misses immediately

General Duties

• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and training requirements
• Adhere to HR, data protection, dress code, smoking, and attendance policies
• Provide support with additional operational requirements as needed
• Perform weekend work when required

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Code B driver’s licence
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in heavy-duty tyre maintenance
• Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects
