About the Role
The Trainee Manager assists the Store Manager in protecting and growing profitable market share within the store. This role supports all operational, sales, and administrative functions while developing leadership, management, and strategic skills to prepare for a future Store Manager position.
Requirements
- Grade 12 with at least 2 years’ retail management experience
- Valid driver’s license and South African ID or valid work permit
- Strong accounting and administrative skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Strong leadership and human resource management skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Own transport and cell phone
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations (OHSA) and related local legislation
Key Performance Areas
Strategic Management
- Assist the Store Manager in developing and implementing the Store Business Plan aligned with company strategy
- Support growth and protection of market share
- Help achieve sales budgets and category growth objectives
- Promote customer loyalty programs and manage advertising distribution
- Support proactive action plans to respond to competitor activity
Customer Service
- Assist in implementing and monitoring the Customer Service strategy
- Maintain Customer Audit scores above 95%
- Support reliable and prompt customer delivery service
- Help grow and maintain VIC client base and transaction budgets
- Recommend range improvements and follow up on customer surveys
Asset Control – Stock and Cash
- Assist with shrinkage control, stock counts, and stock movement management
- Support management of IBTs, customer returns, receiving, and end control
- Assist with debtors, petty cash, daily banking, and handling shorts and overs
- Maintain and protect fixed assets, including racking, signage, IT equipment, and forklifts
Human Resource Management
- Support recruitment, induction, training, and development of staff
- Assist with succession planning, career pathing, and manpower planning
- Facilitate open communication and manage employee relations
Store Standards and Safety
- Maintain housekeeping, merchandising, planograms, yard, and parking standards
- Assist with Ready for Business checklists and ensure compliance
- Ensure safety compliance and appointment of OHSA representatives
- Record and report all incidents in line with legislation
Profitability and CB Way
- Support achievement of operating income budget and store financial performance
- Monitor adherence to company standards and audit benchmarks
- Assist in implementing controls, corrective actions, and operational disciplines
