About the Role

FlySafair is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Technical Procurement Specialist to support the sourcing and procurement of aviation components. This role is critical in ensuring compliance, cost efficiency, and the timely availability of parts to support operational and maintenance requirements.

Job Description

  • Support the development and execution of effective sourcing strategies to optimise procurement efficiency;
  • Ensure compliance with company policies by sourcing only from approved vendors;
  • Assist in identifying and evaluating new suppliers, including coordinating audits and credit applications with Finance;
  • Improve procurement processes to enhance agility and turnaround times;
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and ensure documentation is stored for audit purposes;
  • Monitor procurement spend to identify cost-saving opportunities and support data-driven decisions;
  • Conduct financial analysis of supplier expenditure for reporting to management;
  • Procure technical aviation components in line with specifications, airworthiness standards, and operational needs;
  • Review technical specifications, engineering drawings, and OEM documentation to ensure alignment with requirements;
  • Monitor supplier performance and address issues such as delays, non-conformance, and compliance gaps;
  • Provide procurement support to Maintenance and Engineering teams, including AOG situations;
  • Collaborate with technical teams to resolve issues related to parts and equipment specifications;
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives within procurement;
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes, particularly in technical sourcing and risk management;
  • Ensure compliance with SACAA regulations, company policies, and industry standards;
  • Implement controls to mitigate procurement risks, including counterfeit parts and supplier failures;
  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring technical compliance;
  • Stay informed on industry trends and market developments;
  • Support supplier relationship management, risk assessment, and development initiatives;
  • Monitor backorders and ensure timely deliveries through ERP systems;
  • Manage open requisitions and purchase orders, ensuring timely closure;
  • Reduce GRV suspense by ensuring accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices;
  • Verify staff time records, overtime, and leave submissions for approval;
  • Ensure adherence to legal, safety, and procedural requirements;
  • Assist with procurement of stock items and ad-hoc requirements;
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ensure all procurement activities align with operational and technical specifications.

Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential);
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aviation Maintenance, Supply Chain Management, or related field, or a relevant Maintenance Trade qualification (Essential);
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aviation procurement with a strong technical focus (Essential);
  • Experience with technical specifications, OEM documentation, and aviation component sourcing (Essential);
  • Willingness to work overtime and standby when required;
  • Strong understanding of procurement strategies and best practices;
  • Knowledge of commercial shipping, INCOTERMS, and regulatory compliance;
  • Sound knowledge of aviation regulations, airworthiness standards, and SACAA requirements;
  • Experience with ERP systems such as TRAX or similar;
  • Technical understanding of aircraft systems and maintenance requirements;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
