About the Role
The Stock Controller is responsible for ensuring the efficient management and availability of essential health products and inventory items. This role also oversees the coordination of healthcare equipment maintenance while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organisational requirements to support quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Stock and Inventory Management
- Manage the ordering, receiving, storage, and distribution of stock to ensure consistent availability
- Monitor stock levels and maintain accurate inventory records
- Ensure all stock handling complies with funder requirements and organisational policies
- Oversee proper management and disposal of medical waste
Equipment Coordination and Maintenance
- Coordinate routine maintenance and servicing of healthcare equipment
- Ensure equipment is functioning optimally and meets safety standards
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance schedules
Clinical Support and Compliance
- Support the Professional Nurse in managing health products within scope of practice
- Ensure all activities comply with SANC regulations, relevant legislation, and organisational policies
- Maintain health, safety, and infection control standards to ensure a safe environment
- Promote effective utilisation of resources within the facility
Reporting and Administration
- Compile and submit accurate stock and operational reports
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date records of stock and equipment
- Perform administrative duties as required to support programme operations
Patient Care and Stakeholder Engagement
- Support the delivery of quality patient care through efficient stock management
- Build and maintain professional relationships with patients, healthcare providers, and stakeholders
- Contribute to patient education initiatives where required
Project and Team Support
- Assist with project-related administrative tasks
- Collaborate with healthcare facilities and programme teams to ensure effective service delivery
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities
Governance and Compliance
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
- Adhere to all relevant legislation, codes of conduct, and standard operating procedures
- Follow health and safety policies and report any risks or unsafe conditions
- Participate in performance improvement and professional development initiatives
Minimum Requirements
- Enrolled Nurse qualification
- Registration with SANC
- Matric (Grade 12)
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in government or non-profit healthcare sectors
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work overtime, weekends, and public holidays
- South African citizenship or valid work permit
Knowledge and Skills
- Basic computer literacy including email, record keeping, and database management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong organisational and inventory management skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
Advantageous
- Qualification in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Experience in procurement and stock management
- Fluency in English and local languages
