Job Description
Truworths Careers is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven Senior Finance Manager to lead the Group’s technical accounting function while overseeing key operational areas and strategic initiatives. This role is suited to a qualified CA (SA) who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and is passionate about delivering high-quality financial reporting, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Accounting Leadership
- Take full ownership of all technical accounting matters, including the implementation and monitoring of new accounting standards
- Serve as a key member of the Group accounting forum, ensuring accurate accounting treatment and financial reporting across the Group and subsidiaries
- Oversee the preparation and review of annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS and best-in-class reporting standards
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, disclosure frameworks, and technical documentation
- Coordinate and facilitate external audit reviews and ensure timely resolution of audit queries
- Maintain the financial reporting control framework in line with regulatory and listing requirements
Share Schemes Management
- Oversee all share scheme accounting, including reconciliations and reporting
- Prepare disclosures for inclusion in Group and subsidiary financial statements
- Support tax calculations through accurate share scheme reporting and reconciliations
- Maintain and reconcile data within share-based payment systems
- Assist with the calculation and review of diluted shares in issue
- Manage accounting related to share scheme trusts
Funding and Treasury Oversight
- Participate in funding negotiations and review financing agreements
- Monitor covenant compliance and provide reporting to lenders and internal stakeholders
- Present funding updates and compliance reports to the board and investment committee
- Review funding-related reconciliations and ensure accuracy
Merchandise Imports (Shipping Finance)
- Lead the finance imports function, providing guidance and oversight to the team
- Review journals, reconciliations, and monthly trading and profit reports
- Approve clearing agent invoices and payments
- Report on foreign exchange exposures and ensure compliance with tax requirements related to imports
Merchandise Accounts Payable
- Oversee accounts payable operations related to merchandise
- Review reconciliations and manage complex or ad hoc transactions
Sundry Debtors Management
- Lead the sundry debtors function, ensuring accurate reporting and reconciliation processes
- Monitor loans, advances to suppliers, and supplier development funding
- Provide oversight on journals and financial controls within the function
Strategic and Ad Hoc Projects
- Support and drive strategic finance initiatives aligned with the Group’s objectives
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications and Experience
- Chartered Accountant (CA SA) qualification
- Currently operating at Finance Manager level or above within a listed company of similar scale
- Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience in a complex financial environment
- Strong expertise in technical accounting, financial reporting, and control frameworks
- Experience within the retail or credit retail sector is advantageous
