Job Description
Truworths Careers is seeking an experienced Senior Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Developer to join our BI team. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-level data warehouses that deliver actionable insights across multiple business units. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders and team members to provide robust ETL, data, and reporting solutions that align with modern BI standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Champion BI and Data Warehouse architecture, ensuring data quality, integrity, and reliability
- Contribute to architectural forums and strategic BI initiatives
- Develop and maintain data models (Dimensional, Multi-dimensional, and Relational)
- Design and implement ETL architecture and processes
- Automate processes and optimise IT and business workflows
- Develop PL/SQL scripts and ad-hoc queries to support business needs
- Build and maintain reports, promoting Self-Service BI where applicable
- Integrate data between legacy and modern systems
- Participate in batch processing, scheduling, and daily operational support
- Document technical requirements and Agile documentation standards
- Conduct design, peer, and code reviews
- Mentor mid-level and junior developers, fostering knowledge sharing and technical growth
- Support the transition of BI/DW architecture to modern on-premises or cloud platforms
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc or BCom in Information Systems, IT/IS Diploma, or substantial experience in a Data Warehousing/BI environment
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in data warehousing and ETL development
- Strong architectural mindset with experience in data and report modelling
- Experience in retail systems is advantageous
- Familiarity with batch processing and scheduling
- Proven ability to build and maintain business user relationships
- Experience documenting technical requirements from business briefs

Technical Competencies
- Enterprise Data Warehousing (Kimball Method), Data Modelling and Design
- ETL tools such as SSIS, IBM DataStage, Informatica, ODI, or similar
- PL/SQL or T-SQL scripting and optimisation
- IT and business process engineering
- Report development and promotion of Self-Service BI
- Agile methodology experience, particularly SCRUM
Advantageous Competencies
- Oracle Database (11g/12c/19c), OBIEE, Power BI
- Control-M, Microsoft SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS
- Oracle ESSBASE, SAS Viya/CAS
- Low-code platforms (Oracle APEX, Power Apps)
- Power Query, M Language, DAX
- Realtime data processing/streaming (JSON, MongoDB, Kafka)
- Experience with retail, financial, merchandise, or CRM systems
- Handling large volumes of transactional data
