Role Overview: R&D WIL Learnership
The R&D WIL Learnership offers an opportunity to gain practical experience within the Research and Development environment. Learners will support the R&D team in executing trials, developing products, and contributing to innovation projects. The role focuses on assisting with pilot plant trials, laboratory testing, and project coordination while building strong technical and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and aligning trial protocols with the R&D Technologist and R&D Manager
- Support the planning and execution of research and development projects for the R&D team
- Contribute to prototype development and pilot plant trial preparation
- Participate in production and pilot plant trials and assist in reporting results using established methodologies
- Conduct routine laboratory and product quality tests
- Perform analyses including salt, oil, moisture, particle size, and bulk density testing
- Collect base product samples from production lines for pilot plant development
- Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene standards within the pilot plant
- Support Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with product developers and cross-functional teams
- Assist in compiling project timelines and coordinating resources for trials
- Support scale-up activities within production plants and with co-manufacturers
- Prepare accurate and concise reports with recommendations on formulations and processes
- Assist in drafting technical documentation such as specifications and standards
- Work closely with regulatory teams to ensure compliance with legal requirements
- Participate in training programs to enhance technical and business knowledge
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of the theoretical component of a scientific qualification with an average above 60%
- Final-year student in Biochemistry, Food Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong analytical and technical skills with basic knowledge of statistics
- Ability to interpret data and present meaningful insights
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with a methodical and reliable approach
- Self-motivated with strong organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Valid driver’s license is advantageous
