Job Overview
The R&D WIL Learnership provides hands-on experience supporting research and development projects across PepsiCo South Africa. The role focuses on executing low-complexity projects, supporting prototype development, and assisting with pilot plant trials under the guidance of an R&D Technologist or Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with trial protocols and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
  • Organize and execute assigned R&D projects, ensuring calendar delivery across work streams.
  • Support prototype development and pilot plant trials for low-complexity projects.
  • Collect base products from production lines for pilot plant development.
  • Conduct routine analytical and product quality tests, including:
    • Salt Analysis
    • Oil Analysis
    • Bulk Density Analysis
    • Particle Size Analysis
    • Moisture Analysis
  • Support adherence to GMP and general hygiene practices in the pilot plant.
  • Participate in EHS initiatives and online business knowledge training.
  • Conduct seasoning applications to achieve in-specification results.
  • Compile project timelines, ensuring resources and equipment are available.
  • Execute scale-up activities within PepsiCo production plants and select co-manufacturers.
  • Deliver accurate reporting to line managers and project teams with actionable recommendations.
  • Draft R&D technical data including artwork, process specifications, and finished pack standards.
  • Work with Regulatory to ensure legal and compliance standards are met.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed theoretical studies in Biochemistry, Food Technology, or Engineering with >60% average, currently in the final year.
  • South African citizen.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with basic knowledge of statistics.
  • Methodical, accurate, and reliable team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Results-driven, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Integrity in safeguarding company designs, formulations, and processes.
  • Driving license is an advantage.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across R&D and multiple business functions.
  • Strong negotiation and resource management skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant technologies and ability to apply them.
