Job Overview
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production operations and ensuring that all activities are completed in line with the established production plan. This role involves coordinating production tasks, managing team performance, and ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are consistently met. The Production Supervisor schedules work assignments, sets priorities, and provides direction to production staff to maintain smooth and productive operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily production activities to ensure all processes are completed according to the production schedule.
  • Coordinate workflow by assigning tasks, setting priorities, and directing team members to achieve operational targets.
  • Foster an innovative and results-driven environment focused on improving key performance indicators related to quality, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues that arise within different production sections.
  • Monitor employee performance by reviewing completed tasks, work methods, and adherence to production standards.
  • Set annual performance and development objectives for team members and conduct formal performance evaluations twice per year.
  • Identify employee training and development needs and communicate them to management or the human resources department.
  • Maintain positive labor relations and ensure compliance with employment standards and workplace policies.
  • Maintain accurate production records, prepare reports, and manage related documentation.
  • Ensure production quality standards are achieved through close collaboration with the Quality and Environment Department.
  • Ensure compliance with quality specifications, HACCP standards, internal food safety procedures, and occupational safety policies within the production department.
  • Communicate operational procedures clearly and train employees to follow established working instructions.
  • Oversee maintenance activities and ensure equipment is maintained in proper working condition.
  • Set priorities for maintenance tasks and collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to ensure adequate maintenance support.
  • Ensure shift personnel understand their responsibilities and receive appropriate training.
  • Maintain the correct number of production staff according to company standards and recommend replacements when vacancies occur.
  • Ensure qualified and trained employees are available for key operational roles under supervision.
  • Participate in initiatives related to the development and introduction of new products on the production line.
  • Maintain daily communication with other supervisors to review and evaluate production systems related to quality, food safety, maintenance, and health and safety.
  • Actively participate in shift meetings and ensure agreed deadlines and operational targets are achieved.
  • Capture and complete SAP backflush data reports accurately.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate is required.
  • A tertiary qualification in Process or Production Technology is advantageous.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a production environment, preferably in areas such as process technology, production planning, or production coordination.
  • Proven experience in managing and leading teams.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays when required.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage operational changes.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Word, Excel, and SAP.
  • Certification demonstrating the ability to perform all aspects of the role.
