Job Overview
The Millwright is responsible for ensuring all plant equipment operates at optimal reliability and efficiency. This role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, rapid resolution of breakdowns, and maintaining high plant availability to support key KPIs, including production volume, quality compliance, cost management, and downtime reduction.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Inspection & Troubleshooting
- Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment guided by OEM standards.
- Monitor equipment performance to ensure consistent plant availability.
- Investigate breakdowns to determine causes such as missed maintenance, part failures, or human error.
- Apply problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5-Whys, RCA, decision trees) to identify root causes of failures.
- Utilize electrical and mechanical expertise to troubleshoot and test equipment.
- Complete job cards and requisition parts based on maintenance outcomes.
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled and ad hoc electrical and mechanical maintenance.
- Correct system malfunctions through testing, adjusting, sequencing, synchronizing, and alignment of AC/DC power supplies, motors, generators, circuit breakers, and relay panels.
- Dismantle machinery and replace defective components such as gears, brushes, and armatures.
- Execute preventive maintenance standards on all electrical distribution equipment.
- Maintain thorough documentation and reference equipment drawings, engineering standards, and GMPs.
Planned Maintenance & Plant Optimization
- Execute all scheduled maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
- Adhere to equipment safety protocols and GMP compliance.
- Complete job cards and parts requisition documents promptly to improve mean time to repair.
- Refurbish machinery and replace parts to optimize plant output.
Breakdown Management
- Attend to all electrical and mechanical plant breakdowns, diagnosing and resolving issues effectively.
- Gather feedback from plant personnel on equipment performance.
- Ensure safe demarcation of work areas during major repairs to minimize disruptions and safety risks.
- Assemble machinery and ensure proper functioning post-repair.
- Comply with AIB, food safety programs, and environmental protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of breakdowns, parts usage, and repair work.
Administration & Documentation
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and complete daily shift reports.
- Manage SAP/CMMS backlog to ensure zero pending work orders (ZGT1, ZGT2, ZGT3, ZGT5).
- Ensure parts and spares availability and perform standby and shift duties as required.
- Raise and close out near misses in line with safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Trade-tested Millwright (Mechanical/Electrical).
- Minimum 3 years post-apprenticeship experience in an FMCG environment or equivalent recognition of prior learning.
- Strong knowledge of automated systems and equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting capabilities.
