Maintenance Operator Gr 2 Mechanical – Sasol Careers

Purpose of the Role
The Maintenance Operator Gr 2 Mechanical supports the maintenance, operation, and inspection of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems and equipment. The role focuses on ensuring optimal plant performance through effective equipment operation, fault identification, data collection, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply and maintain safety standards within the working environment at all times
• Perform planned maintenance tasks in line with work schedules and instructions
• Operate mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment safely and efficiently
• Conduct plant inspections and carry out repairs to ensure equipment reliability and availability
• Identify equipment faults using approved diagnostic methods and tools
• Participate in root cause analyses and provide accurate feedback to RCA teams
• Attend daily morning meetings, toolbox talks, PDAs, and RCAs to support plant safety and stability
• Provide regular and accurate feedback to supervisors and customers on work progress
• Capture correct maintenance history to support renewals, upgrades, and critical spare replacements
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and comply with waste management procedures
• Conduct My IMS inspections to support plant sustainability and compliance
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the work area
• Attend training courses and seminars as per the training matrix to enhance skills and competence
• Identify personal development needs and align them with the Personal Development Plan
• Support business objectives by meeting deadlines and performance targets

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Mathematics, English, and Science, or
• N3 with Mathematics and Engineering Science
• NQF Level 2 Occupational Qualification

Experience Requirements

• 1 to 2+ years of relevant mechanical or electro-mechanical maintenance experience

Licensing Requirement

• Valid Driver’s License Code C1 (old Code 10)
