Spar Vacancies – Maintenance Foreman

Introduction

The Maintenance Foreman will lead a team responsible for implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs, ensuring a reliable transport fleet and effective facilities management in line with company policies and procedures.

Key Performance Areas

• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
• Manage, supervise, and motivate a workshop team
• Allocate and oversee work for mechanical contractors
• Provide on-road support for vehicle breakdowns
• Analyze driver report sheets and take corrective actions
• Coordinate scheduled maintenance interventions and unscheduled repairs
• Manage fleet service and maintenance programs efficiently
• Oversee workshop stock, administration, and facilities maintenance
• Provide solutions for mechanical failures and technical issues
• Attend safety meetings, maintain a safe working environment, and investigate departmental incidents
• Plan and manage maintenance schedules according to manufacturing specifications
• Handle workshop queries and monitor fuel levels
• Carry out ad-hoc tasks as directed by management
• Work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and public holidays

Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Matric certificate
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a qualified Diesel Mechanic
• Supervisory experience in a workshop environment advantageous
• Computer literacy, including MS Teams
• Experience with European vehicles (MAN, Mercedes-Benz) and trailing equipment (BPW, Jost, Thermo King fridges, Tail lifts)
• Ability to function effectively in a team environment
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage a team effectively
