Job Purpose
The Junior Aviation Technician is responsible for supporting aircraft maintenance activities by conducting inspections, fault finding, and routine maintenance in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory requirements. This role contributes to the continued airworthiness, safety, and operational reliability of the aircraft fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Maintenance & Inspections
- Conduct line maintenance inspections in accordance with approved maintenance schedules.
- Perform daily, weekly, and routine inspections to identify defects, faults, or potential issues.
- Carry out inspections and basic maintenance on various aircraft avionics systems.
- Conduct fault finding and rectify defects within scope and authorisation.
- Perform required servicing tasks to ensure aircraft airworthiness.
Compliance, Safety & Documentation
- Adhere strictly to established maintenance procedures, technical manuals, and safety standards.
- Accurately record all maintenance activities and ensure proper certification and sign-off in line with SACAA requirements.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations to prevent incidents, accidents, and injuries.
- Ensure work areas, equipment, and tooling are safe, serviceable, and fit for purpose prior to commencing tasks.
Troubleshooting & Communication
- Apply analytical and troubleshooting techniques to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely task completion.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- SACAA-recognised trade test certificate in an avionics-related discipline, such as Avionician, Aircraft Instrument Mechanic, Aircraft Electrician, or Aircraft Radio Technician.
- 0–2 years’ post-apprenticeship experience in aviation maintenance.
- Previous exposure to B737-800 or B737-8 (MAX) avionics systems is advantageous.
- Prior line maintenance experience is advantageous.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
- Availability to travel locally and internationally at short notice.
- Valid South African passport and driver’s licence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Sound understanding of technical aircraft publications and maintenance documentation.
