Role Overview

Santam Operations within Commercial Portfolio Management is seeking a dedicated Insurance Consultant to provide comprehensive end-to-end service and support to brokers. This role is focused on delivering efficient, compliant, and professional assistance across commercial and agricultural insurance portfolios while maintaining strong relationships with intermediaries.

Key Responsibilities

The Insurance Consultant will be responsible for:

  • Servicing broker requests and responding to general and policy-specific enquiries
  • Providing telephonic and email support to intermediaries, authorised brokerage representatives, and broker services
  • Issuing new policies, maintaining existing policies, and managing renewals, including agricultural aspects
  • Resolving insurance-related queries within required turnaround times and compliance standards
  • Conducting follow-ups on cancelled policies to understand reasons and attempt retention
  • Adjusting premiums in line with updated asset values
  • Managing broker expectations regarding turnaround times
  • Adhering to underwriting guidelines and regional requirements
  • Profiling clients to ensure alignment with suitable products and underwriting criteria
  • Advising brokers to ensure clients receive appropriate cover and product solutions
  • Contributing to process improvements and operational efficiencies
  • Providing support to team members during peak periods or absences

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • 60 Commercial Lines FAIS credits
  • Relevant insurance-related qualification (NQF Level 5 or equivalent advantageous)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in short-term insurance, specifically commercial lines and/or agricultural assets
  • Proven experience in commercial and agricultural policy administration and underwriting

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Solid understanding of commercial and agricultural insurance products
  • Knowledge of underwriting processes and compliance requirements
  • Effective administrative and organisational abilities
  • Ability to optimise work processes and meet deadlines
