Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Grants and Compliance with preparation of annual project budgets.
  • Monitor project cash flow and advise the Head of Grants and Compliance of any shortfalls.
  • Ensure timely submission of monthly donor reports to the Head of Grants and Compliance.
  • Assist with uploading budgets into the accounting system.
  • Review and update financial reports to comply with donor and statutory requirements.
  • Verify daily payments on Nedbank to ensure proper authorisation.
  • Release daily payment batches on the Nedbank banking system.
  • Monitor and coordinate grant administration to ensure compliance with budgets, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Department to address critical review areas and implement changes to resolve non-compliance issues.
  • Review sub-recipient contractual compliance in line with donor and organisational requirements.
  • Support project managers in developing new proposals, manual budgets, and work plans.
  • Review monthly project expenses versus budget and implement strategies to optimise burn rates and project deliverables.
  • Assist project staff in preparing periodic reports according to funder requirements.
  • Review personnel files to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support finance with balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure daily payments comply with statutory and donor requirements.
  • Support supplier review and onboarding processes.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • BCom or BCompt Degree in Financial Management or relevant tertiary qualification.
  • 2–4 years’ experience, preferably in grants and contracts management.
  • Knowledge of donor grants and the non-profit sector.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
  • Capable of working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
