About the Role

  • The General Assistant position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service in-store
  • Maintain high merchandising standards, accurate shelf pricing, and a clean, safe working environment

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly and efficient assistance to customers with product selection and queries
  • Handle and resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly

Merchandising Standards

  • Ensure bulk stock is displayed safely according to the store layout
  • Maintain fully stocked shelves in line with store plans and merchandising guidelines

Housekeeping

  • Keep the assigned area clean, organized, and free from hazards
  • Ensure shelves are correctly labelled with accurate pricing
  • Complete all required checklists, including canteen and restroom schedules

Safety (OHSA) Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures, including the use of protective equipment
  • Maintain a safe environment for both customers and staff
  • Report any safety concerns or irregularities to the Store Manager

Stock Loss Control

  • Report damaged or missing stock within the assigned area to management

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year of relevant work experience, or Grade 12 with no experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
  • Valid South African ID or work permit
  • Basic numeracy skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
