About the Role
- The General Assistant position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service in-store
- Maintain high merchandising standards, accurate shelf pricing, and a clean, safe working environment
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Provide friendly and efficient assistance to customers with product selection and queries
- Handle and resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly
Merchandising Standards
- Ensure bulk stock is displayed safely according to the store layout
- Maintain fully stocked shelves in line with store plans and merchandising guidelines
Housekeeping
- Keep the assigned area clean, organized, and free from hazards
- Ensure shelves are correctly labelled with accurate pricing
- Complete all required checklists, including canteen and restroom schedules
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, including the use of protective equipment
- Maintain a safe environment for both customers and staff
- Report any safety concerns or irregularities to the Store Manager
Stock Loss Control
- Report damaged or missing stock within the assigned area to management
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year of relevant work experience, or Grade 12 with no experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
- Valid South African ID or work permit
- Basic numeracy skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to perform well under pressure
