FlySafair is seeking highly skilled and safety-focused pilots to join the team as First Officers. The role supports the Captain in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of flights while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.
Job Description
Operations
- Ensure the safety and efficiency of flight operations at all times.
- Monitor the aircraft’s flight path, navigation systems, and overall aircraft performance.
- Perform required checks and procedures before, during, and after each flight.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, and passengers when necessary.
- Assist in navigating and operating the aircraft in accordance with operational standards.
- Ensure full compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and operating procedures.
- Maintain the company’s commitment to excellent customer service.
- Submit accurate and complete legal and administrative flight documentation.
- Assume command of the aircraft if the Captain becomes incapacitated.
- Remain updated with SACAA and international aviation regulations as well as the company’s operational manuals.
- Maintain familiarity with all sections of the Operations Manual necessary for the role.
- Support the Captain with operational and administrative duties related to the flight.
- Assist the Captain in maintaining high standards of crew discipline, conduct, and professional appearance.
- Perform duties related to flight operations according to FlySafair Standard Operating Procedures, including aircraft-specific procedures, limitations, and performance requirements.
- Carry out additional duties assigned by the Captain when required.
- Continuously monitor aircraft position and terrain clearance to ensure safe navigation.
- Provide advice, assistance, and relevant information to the Captain to support safe and efficient flight operations.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, discipline, and conduct as a representative of the company.
- Support the Captain in maintaining high professional standards and positive crew morale.
- Ensure full compliance with the company’s Operations Manual at all times.
Pre-Flight
- Ensure complete awareness of the planned flight route, briefing materials, and weather forecasts including runway conditions at destination and alternate aerodromes.
- Perform all required pre-flight checks as outlined in the Operations Manual and complete all required documentation.
- Collaborate with the Captain to review all operational documents and determine appropriate fuel requirements, alternates, and potential operational restrictions.
In-Flight
- Execute or monitor all normal, abnormal, and emergency checklists as specified in the Operations Manual.
- Monitor all aspects of the flight to ensure proper procedures and techniques are followed.
- Cross-check flight instruments including altitude, speed, and heading, and immediately inform the Captain of any deviations or potential hazards.
- Conduct radio communications when required during flight operations.
Post-Flight
- Ensure all post-flight procedures are completed according to operational manuals.
- Submit all relevant documentation and reports through required reporting systems.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot License (Essential).
- SACAA Airline Transport Pilot License (Preferred).
- Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential).
- Boeing type rating (Advantageous).
- Experience operating commercial jets over 20 tons (Advantageous).
- Minimum of 1500 flight hours including at least 500 hours of multi-turbine experience (Essential).
- Multi-crew operational experience (Essential).
- No existing medical conditions that may affect operational duties.
- Willingness to sign applicable training bonds.
- Clean criminal record and willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
- Own transport and valid driver’s license.
- South African citizenship with valid identification and passport.
- Willingness to work irregular hours according to flight rosters.
- Strong knowledge of national and international aviation regulations including SACAA and ICAO standards.
- Knowledge of aviation documentation such as Doc 8186.
- Understanding of commercial and airline transport pilot licensing standards.
