About the Role
FlySafair is seeking a skilled and safety-focused First Officer to support flight operations and ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism. The successful candidate will work closely with the Captain to ensure efficient flight operations while maintaining strict adherence to aviation regulations and company procedures.
Job Description
Operations
- Ensure the safe and timely operation of all flights;
- Monitor aircraft systems and flight path throughout all phases of flight;
- Perform all required pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures;
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, external service providers, and passengers;
- Operate and navigate the aircraft in accordance with established procedures;
- Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and standard operating procedures;
- Deliver excellent customer service in line with company standards;
- Complete accurate and compliant administrative and legal documentation;
- Assume command in the event of Captain incapacitation;
- Stay updated on SACAA and international aviation regulations and company manuals;
- Maintain familiarity with all relevant operational manuals;
- Assist the Captain with operational and administrative duties;
- Support high standards of crew discipline, conduct, and appearance;
- Carry out duties in accordance with FlySafair SOPs, aircraft limitations, and performance requirements;
- Continuously monitor navigation, ensuring accurate positioning and terrain clearance;
- Provide input and support to the Captain to enhance safe and efficient flight operations;
- Maintain professionalism and represent the company positively at all times;
- Support crew development and maintain high morale;
- Ensure full compliance with company operations manuals.
Pre-Flight
- Review flight routes, briefing documentation, weather forecasts, and runway conditions;
- Complete all required checks and documentation in line with operational procedures;
- Collaborate with the Captain to assess fuel requirements, alternates, and flight restrictions.
In-Flight
- Execute and monitor normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures in accordance with manuals;
- Continuously monitor flight instruments, including altitude, speed, and heading;
- Report deviations, hazards, or abnormal indications immediately;
- Conduct radio communications as required.
Post-Flight
- Complete all post-flight procedures in accordance with operational manuals;
- Submit all required reports and documentation, including IQSMS entries.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent;
- SACAA Commercial Pilot Licence (Essential);
- SACAA ATPL (Preferred);
- Valid Class 1 SACAA Medical Certificate (Essential);
- Boeing type rating (Advantageous);
- Experience on commercial jets exceeding 20 tons (Advantageous);
- Minimum of 1500 flight hours, including at least 500 hours multi-turbine time (Essential);
- Multi-crew experience (Essential);
- No existing medical conditions;
- Willingness to sign applicable training bonds;
- Clear criminal record and willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing;
- Valid driver’s licence with own transport;
- South African citizenship with valid identification and passport;
- Willingness to work irregular hours on a roster;
- Strong knowledge of SACAA, ICAO regulations, and aviation standards;
- Knowledge of ICAO Doc 8186 (Essential);
- Understanding of commercial and airline transport pilot licensing requirements.
