Role Purpose
PepsiCo Vacancies is seeking an Engineer II: Bakeries Technical and Engineering to drive plant reliability, process optimisation, and maintenance excellence. The Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert in maintenance, supporting bakery maintenance managers and leading initiatives to improve equipment performance, production throughput, and operational safety while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Care & Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and manage Asset Care Programs, including PeMM audits and best practice adoption.
- Define and refine preventative maintenance plans to maximise plant and equipment reliability and performance.
- Support maintenance managers in optimising preventative maintenance systems and reducing breakdowns.
- Conduct technical audits and provide engineering guidance to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency of equipment.
Production Performance & Reliability
- Reduce unscheduled and scheduled downtime, and improve speed losses for Total Efficiency (TE) and Net Efficiency (NE).
- Lead technical investigations and root cause analysis (RCA) to address repetitive failures and operational issues.
- Support process optimisation, damage reduction, and implementation of new technologies to enhance throughput and quality.
- Monitor and manage maintenance performance scorecards.
Projects & Capital Initiatives
- Support CAPEX and OPEX projects, including major shutdowns, equipment installations, and process improvements.
- Enable equipment upgrades, modifications, and technology adoption to drive productivity and efficiency.
- Assist in short- and long-term capital planning for bakery operations.
Budgeting & Financial Management
- Support annual maintenance OPEX budgeting, monthly forecasting, and financial control.
- Optimise spares stockholding and utilisation to reduce costs and maintain production continuity.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety, GMP, Health & Safety, and company EHS standards.
- Maintain a safe working environment and promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Drive reduction of waste, energy, and water consumption while enhancing product quality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant Engineering Degree or Diploma
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in manufacturing and/or supply chain, with FMCG experience essential
- Strong maintenance background with at least 5 years in plant maintenance
- Experience in bakery operations advantageous
- Proven management of technical/process projects including shutdowns and equipment installations
- Sound knowledge of preventative maintenance principles and practices

- Ability to travel nationally to various sites as required
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication, influencing, and presentation abilities
- Hands-on approach on the factory floor when needed
- Vendor management experience and strong network with food OEMs
- Maintenance budgeting and financial acumen
- Computer literate with experience in Engineering software and CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, Pragma, AutoCAD)
- Deep knowledge of food safety, GMP, and health & safety requirements
- Subject matter expertise in productivity processes and best practices for operational efficiency
