Job Overview
The Engineer II: Bakeries Technical and Engineering is responsible for driving plant reliability, maintenance excellence, and process optimization across bakery operations. This role focuses on implementing Asset Care Programs, enhancing equipment performance, supporting capital and operational projects, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and productivity standards. The Engineer II serves as a subject matter expert, guiding maintenance teams and providing technical solutions to improve plant operations and overall efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Care & Maintenance Management
- Implement and manage Asset Care Programs, including PeMM audits and best practices.
- Define, develop, and monitor the Asset Maintenance Plan, incorporating preventive maintenance tasks.
- Optimize plant and equipment reliability and performance through systematic maintenance strategies.
- Act as engineering gatekeeper on maintenance schedules, ensuring effectiveness and execution.
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance managers on equipment upkeep for safety, quality, and performance.
- Conduct regular audits (PeMM, Anchor, etc.) to ensure adherence to standards.
Plant Performance & Reliability
- Drive reductions in scheduled and unscheduled downtime and line speed losses.
- Lead technical investigations and solutions, including root cause analyses (RCA).
- Support process optimization initiatives, including damage reduction and throughput improvement.
- Develop engineering solutions to recurring failures affecting capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance.
- Manage maintenance performance scorecards and monitor key technical metrics.
Projects & Capital Support
- Support CAPEX and OPEX projects, including equipment upgrades, modifications, and new technology implementation.
- Enable short- and long-term capital planning and execution to improve plant productivity.
- Assist maintenance managers with internal technical and process projects, including major shutdowns and machine installations.
Financial & Operational Management
- Support the annual maintenance OPEX budget, including forecasting and monthly control.
- Optimize spare parts stock levels and utilization.
- Drive initiatives to reduce waste, energy, water usage, and damages.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety, GMP, and Food Safety standards.
- Maintain a safe working environment while enforcing company and legal requirements.
Qualifications
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in manufacturing or supply chain; FMCG experience essential.
- Strong maintenance background with at least 5 years of hands-on experience.
- Previous bakery experience advantageous.
- Experience managing technical projects, major shutdowns, breakdowns, and machine installations.
- Strong understanding and application of preventive maintenance principles.
- Ability to work cross-functionally, influence stakeholders, and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Experience in vendor management and strong local OEM network.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering software, including CMMS (SAP PM, Pragma, AutoCAD).
- Hands-on approach in the factory environment to drive productivity and best practices.
- Mobility to travel nationally to support sites as required.
