About the Program
As an Engineer II in Bakeries Technical and Engineering, you will play a critical role in driving plant reliability, process optimization, and asset care programs. This position focuses on maintenance excellence, performance improvement, and implementation of technology upgrades to enhance quality, throughput, and safety across bakery operations.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Care & Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and manage the Asset Care Program, including PeMM audits and best practice rollouts.
- Define, monitor, and refine the Asset Maintenance Plan, including preventive maintenance tasks to optimize plant and equipment reliability.
- Act as the engineering gatekeeper for maintenance schedules, ensuring suitability, effectiveness, and execution.
- Provide technical guidance to bakery maintenance managers on maintaining equipment for safety, quality, and performance.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with maintenance standards and practices.
Performance & Reliability (TE/NE)
- Reduce scheduled and unscheduled downtime, speed losses, and breakdowns through technical investigations and solutions (RCA).
- Provide subject matter expertise to drive reliability improvement and performance optimization.
- Manage maintenance performance scorecards and support process improvements, including damage reduction and technology implementation.
- Support maintenance managers with internal, technical, and process projects, including major shutdowns, breakdowns, and machine installations.
Projects & Process Optimization
- Enable process optimization through equipment upgrades, modifications, and maintenance initiatives.
- Support short- and long-term capital planning and execution for bakery operations.
- Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures impacting capacity, quality, cost, regulatory compliance, and waste reduction.
Finance & Budget
- Support annual maintenance OPEX budgets, including monthly forecasting and performance tracking.
- Drive improvements in quality, throughput, and reduction of damages, waste, energy, and water usage.
Other Responsibilities
- Provide input on maintenance team structure, spares stock management, and optimal utilization.
- Act as a go-to person on productivity processes and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety, GMP, Health & Safety, and EHS standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in manufacturing and/or supply chain, with at least 5 years in maintenance.
- FMCG experience is essential; bakery experience advantageous.
- Proven experience managing internal, technical, and process projects, including major shutdowns and machine installations.
- Strong understanding and application of preventive maintenance principles.
- Ability to travel nationally to support sites as required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Hands-on approach on the factory floor as needed.
- Strong local vendor network and vendor management experience.
- Experience in maintenance budgeting and financial control.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Engineering software tools/CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, Pragma, AutoCAD).
- Deep knowledge of Food Safety, GMP standards, and Health & Safety requirements within a factory environment.
