Retail Operations Manager – Spar Vacancies
Job Description
Spar Vacancies is seeking an experienced Retail Operations Manager to oversee the performance and operational standards of Build it stores while strengthening relationships with retailers and internal teams. This role focuses on improving store performance, ensuring compliance with brand standards, and supporting retailers in achieving sustainable business growth.
Key Performance Areas
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with regional retailers, store staff, and corporate team members
- Ensure Build it stores comply with required store format and corporate identity specifications
- Monitor and maintain high operational and service excellence standards across stores
- Support retailers in increasing market share and improving store profitability
- Evaluate retailer business performance and provide strategic recommendations for improvement
- Analyse and interpret financial performance to guide decision-making
- Develop and implement business growth plans for Build it stores
- Conduct structured store visits and operational audits, providing detailed reports to retailers and regional or national office teams
- Provide guidance on modern retail strategies and competitive trends within the hardware industry
- Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing among retailers and team members
Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Business Management, Financial Management, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in retail or home improvement within a senior management role
- Strong ability to engage at a strategic business level and motivate independent retailers within a corporate environment
- In-depth understanding of the building materials and hardware retail sector, including challenges faced by small businesses
- Ability to analyse financial reports and advise retailers on profitability and growth strategies
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel, with intermediate PowerPoint proficiency
- Strong financial acumen, leadership ability, and attention to detail
- Self-motivated with strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Sound knowledge of hardware and building material products
- Valid driver’s license, South African passport, and willingness to travel extensively
