Job Overview
The DC Controller is responsible for coordinating distribution activities within the Distribution Centre to ensure operational efficiency, accurate inventory management, and alignment with organizational objectives. This role focuses on maintaining stock levels, supporting order fulfillment, managing promotional activities, and ensuring sales targets are met while providing timely and accurate reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
- Manage inventory levels within the Distribution Centre to ensure stock availability and optimal coverage.
- Coordinate with the customer’s Replenishment Planner to place orders for items running low on weeks’ cover.
- Monitor stock levels of key products and take proactive measures to prevent shortages.
Order Fulfillment
- Coordinate the fulfillment of customer orders, ensuring recovery dates are aligned and purchase orders are valid.
- Communicate with the business regarding rejected orders, missed deliveries, and relevant reasons.
- Ensure timely updates and feedback on order status to stakeholders.
Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare daily reports on Key Value Item (KVI) lines, days of cover, and expected order arrivals.
- Identify risk SKUs for upcoming promotions and monitor stock recovery post-promotion.
- Provide management listings and relevant sales information to support decision-making.
Promotional Activity Support
- Plan and manage stock requirements for upcoming promotions, ensuring adequate inventory to meet campaign demands.
- Highlight low stock items that could impact promotional performance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of promotional plans within the DC.
Achievement of Sales Targets
- Monitor and manage sales targets for assigned products.
- Assist with promotional plans and their implementation within the Distribution Centre.
- Communicate out-of-stock situations to relevant stakeholders, including company and DC stock shortages.
- Negotiate bulk orders at the Distribution Centre and Key Franchise stores to support sales objectives.
Customer and Company Liaison
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate distribution and administration of company products.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in sales, merchandising, or distribution within the FMCG environment.
- Relevant Diploma at NQF Level 6 or equivalent qualification.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management abilities.
- Results-driven with a focus on performance and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
