Role Overview

The Compliance Officer plays a key role in ensuring full compliance with operational policies and regulatory requirements within the Pick n Pay Clothing Division. This position promotes a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct through effective compliance monitoring, guidance, and training across the retail network.

Qualifications & Experience

  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Auditing, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in compliance, auditing, or operational control, with retail experience being an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of South African legislation, including BCEA, LRA, OHS, and the Consumer Protection Act.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with digital compliance tracking tools or audit systems.
  • Compliance Institute certification or progress toward certification is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Development & Management

  • Develop, review, and maintain compliance policies and procedures aligned with legislative requirements.
  • Ensure all compliance documentation meets South African regulatory standards, including POPIA, CPA, and FICA.
  • Coordinate the implementation and rollout of compliance policies across Pick n Pay Clothing stores.

Compliance Monitoring

  • Manage and oversee the Compliance Self-Audit (CSA) framework.
  • Identify, analyse, and escalate non-compliance trends across store operations.
  • Conduct targeted compliance assessments based on risk evaluation outcomes.

Training & Awareness

  • Design and deliver compliance training programmes for store and regional management.
  • Develop engaging training materials that support ethical behaviour and regulatory understanding.
  • Monitor training effectiveness and update content in line with regulatory changes.

Investigations & Reporting

  • Lead internal investigations into compliance breaches using structured methodologies.
  • Compile detailed reports highlighting audit findings, trends, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain investigation records in full compliance with POPIA requirements.

Regulatory Intelligence

  • Monitor legislative developments impacting retail operations and the supply chain.
  • Advise management on required policy, process, and control enhancements.
  • Represent the Clothing Division in compliance-related engagements with regulatory authorities.
