About the Program
Main Purpose of the Job
The Clinical Nurse Practitioner delivers high-quality, nurse-led HIV and primary healthcare services to men who have sex with men (MSM) and other key populations at the Ivan Toms Centre, mobile units, and other DOH sites as required. This role provides integrated clinical care across the HIV prevention and treatment cascade, ensures client retention and viral suppression, upholds national clinical guidelines, and supports stigma-free, client-centered services that improve health outcomes and continuity of care.
Roles and Responsibilities
Clinical Service Delivery, Cohort Management, and Retention Support
- Provide standard clinical services including HTS, ART, PrEP, PEP, STI and TB screening, and STI treatment at the Ivan Toms Centre, mobile units, or other clinical sites.
- Deliver enhanced clinical services within scope, including prescribing medication, managing NCDs, mental health, and other conditions.
- Perform other clinical services as requested under the supervision of the Senior Clinical Advisor.
- Ensure all clinical services comply with licensed scope of practice, project SOPs, and National Department of Health guidelines.
- Maintain clinical service delivery aligned with project performance targets.
- Oversee assigned client cohorts to ensure viral suppression, PrEP continuation, and overall clinical needs are addressed.
Clinical Oversight and Mentorship
- Provide guidance and oversight to professional nurses in the absence of the Senior Clinical Advisor or as requested.
- Act as a first point of clinical referral for nurses within scope of practice or facilitate consults with the Senior Clinical Advisor.
- Manage clinical referrals and link clients to tertiary institutions or other providers within scope or under supervision.
Quality Assurance and Routine Monitoring
- Implement quality assurance and monitoring to ensure accurate reporting and clinical service delivery.
- Provide clinical oversight to mobile and facility-based teams of non-clinical staff.
- Conduct clinical quality assurance procedures, including rapid test continuous quality improvement, according to project, organizational, and DOH guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of guidelines, licenses, clinical practice, and SOPs.
- Manage clinical spaces, equipment, and medication inventories at all service sites following project and site procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety and Infection Control policies.
Project Support and Administration
- Complete programme reporting and clinical data management, including updating registers and performance reports.
- Support training and capacity building of clinical and non-clinical staff and other stakeholders.
- Provide additional administrative, clinical, and programme support as requested by managers.
