C&I Engineer I – Sasol Careers

Purpose of the Role
The C&I Engineer I contributes to the development and application of global control and instrumentation engineering standards while supporting project execution and delivery assurance. The role focuses on ensuring safety, quality, and performance objectives are met, supporting the development of C&I engineers, and enabling reliable project delivery through defined KPIs and technical governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in global C&I engineering standard development and implementation
• Support project scoping, delivery assurance, and definition of project KPIs
• Manage relationships with internal and external service providers within the discipline
• Ensure work is delivered in line with agreed quality, timelines, and standards
• Maintain discipline-specific systems, tools, policies, and procedures for project execution
• Ensure full compliance with Sasol safety systems, culture, and legal requirements
• Maintain sound knowledge of area-specific C&I equipment, including transmitters and control valves, to optimise plant availability
• Build effective working relationships with instrumentation, control, production, and maintenance stakeholders
• Liaise with external engineering partners to benchmark best practices and share technical knowledge
• Perform trip and alarm testing and verify protection system functionality
• Configure, calibrate, and change ranges and trip settings on process automation systems
• Configure field instruments using AMS, FDM, and HART communicators
• Support and verify plant modifications through piloting, testing, and quality assurance
• Manage discipline-specific project risks and perform quality control on delivered services
• Review and apply Sasol policies and standards within the area of responsibility
• Develop and manage deviation concessions and concession registers for small projects
• Govern and approve proposed engineering modifications
• Ensure quality of engineering design, EOJ documentation, and project handover deliverables
• Approve Pre-Startup Safety Review readiness
• Develop and implement innovative designs and improvements within the C&I discipline
• Plan and allocate resources to meet short- and long-term objectives
• Facilitate knowledge sharing, innovation, and effective engineering knowledge management
• Drive high performance, safety focus, and continuous improvement within the discipline
• Develop technical and engineering capability of engineers in training through coaching
• Contribute to the execution of the technical support strategy and cascade goals through effective communication
• Demonstrate One Sasol way behaviours and collaborate effectively across diverse teams

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years relevant control and instrumentation engineering experience

Technical Experience and Knowledge

• Experience with ABB and Rockwell Automation variable frequency drives
• Working knowledge of Rockwell Automation Logix 5000 platforms
• Experience with industrial network communication systems
