Spar Vacancies – CATEGORY MANAGER

Introduction

The CATEGORY MANAGER is responsible for driving and promoting business performance through strategic buying of promotional and replenishment stock, effective communication and leadership with retailers, upholding retail policies, and maintaining category and divisional profitability, stockholding, and service levels.

Key Performance Areas

• Negotiate with supplier sales representatives to secure competitive deals and pricing
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all supplier transactions
• Manage stock levels and service levels in line with sales targets and budget
• Oversee product ranges and service levels within assigned categories
• Achieve targeted DC sales and gross profit
• Monitor and manage product performance to maximize profitability

Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Matric certificate
• Marketing Degree or Diploma, or Purchasing Diploma
• Minimum 5 years’ retail experience in a senior managerial role
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Thorough understanding of buying systems and processes
• Comprehensive knowledge of product range requirements within a supermarket environment
• Proven negotiation skills
• Strong initiative, creativity, and problem-solving ability
• Administrative and financial skills
• Computer literacy; SAP knowledge advantageous
