Spar Vacancies – CATEGORY MANAGER (CHILLED)

Introduction

The CATEGORY MANAGER (CHILLED) is responsible for driving business performance through strategic buying of promotional and replenishment stock, leading and communicating effectively with retailers, upholding retail policies, and ensuring category and divisional profitability, stockholding, and service levels.

Key Performance Areas

• Negotiate with supplier sales representatives to achieve competitive pricing
• Maintain accurate records of all supplier transactions
• Negotiate deals and prices to meet budgeted gross profit for DC and retail
• Manage stock levels and service levels in line with sales targets and budgets
• Oversee product ranges within assigned chilled categories
• Achieve targeted DC sales and gross profit
• Monitor and respond to advertising and consumer trends
• Drive sales through innovation and special promotions

Minimum Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• National Senior Certificate (Matric)
• Diploma or Degree in Purchasing, Commerce, or Marketing Management recommended
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in FMCG buying
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Thorough knowledge of buying systems and processes
• In-depth understanding of product range requirements in a supermarket environment
• Proven negotiation skills
• Strong initiative, creativity, and problem-solving ability
• Administrative and financial skills
• Computer literacy; SAP knowledge advantageous
