Casual Cashier – Dischem Vacancies
Dischem Vacancies is seeking an experienced Casual Cashier to join the team at our Brackenfell Corner store. The successful candidate will support customer service at the point of sale while delivering a world-class shopping experience. This role requires accurately recording transactions on the company operating system in line with policies and standard operating procedures, with zero tolerance for inaccuracies and fraud.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum of 6 months’ cashier or till operations experience
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Strong numerical skills
- Good command of the English language
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with company customer service policies and procedures
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers
- Report customer feedback, complaints, and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Meet required hourly customer turnover rates
- Stay informed about current promotions and sales initiatives
- Ensure a safe environment for customers and colleagues
- Apply 5-star communication principles consistently
- Take responsibility for accurate cash flow management
- Obtain supervisor approval for all line voids and price changes
- Process authorised merchandise exchanges and returns
- Accurately process all transactions, including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons
- Process loyalty and partner rewards transactions
- Follow standard operating procedures for cash handling and safe drops
- Safeguard personal access codes and passwords
- Ensure all outgoing items are scanned and paid for
- Secure all cash within the till at all times
- Handle daily takings confidentially and report only to management
- Identify and report suspicious behaviour
- Assist customers with merchandise-related queries
- Adhere to all security policies and procedures
Competencies

- Strong knowledge of cash register operations and cash drawer control
- Understanding of sales, refunds, and payment processing
- Excellent verbal and written English communication
