Cashier – Dis-Chem Vacancies

About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for experienced Cashiers to join the team on a fixed-term basis. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a seamless shopping experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately recording customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system in line with company policies and standard operating procedures, maintaining accuracy and minimizing fraud risk.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
• Computer literacy with basic knowledge of MS Office
• Strong numerical skills
• Good command of the English language
• Basic customer service skills
• Willing and able to work retail hours

Key Responsibilities

• Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures at all times
• Build professional and positive relationships with customers
• Report customer compliments and complaints to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
• Maintain the required hourly customer service turnover rate
• Stay informed about current sales promotions and offers
• Ensure both customers and colleagues are not exposed to any risk within the store environment
• Apply Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles when interacting with customers
• Manage cash flow and ensure all transactions are handled accurately
• Ensure all line voids and price changes are authorised and signed off by the supervisor
• Process merchandise exchanges and customer returns when authorised
• Process all payments including cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payment methods
• Process loyalty card transactions including partner programmes such as Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks
• Ensure cash is placed in the drop safe according to company procedures
• Keep personal login codes and passwords secure and updated regularly
• Ensure all outgoing items and prescriptions are scanned and paid for
• Safeguard all money within the till and maintain strict control over cash handling
• Handle daily takings confidentially and discuss financial matters only with authorised management
• Remain alert to suspicious behaviour and report concerns to management
• Assist customers with queries related to store merchandise
• Follow all store security policies and procedures
