About the Role
The Cashier is responsible for accurately processing all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and related documentation to ensure a smooth checkout experience and high levels of customer satisfaction. The role ensures that all goods passing through the POS are correctly paid for and recorded.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or at least 1 year of relevant work experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and the dominant local language
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to perform basic calculations accurately
- Good administrative and organizational skills
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to perform well under pressure
Key Performance Areas
Cash Handling
- Ensure all allocated cash, including floats and petty cash, balances accurately
- Accurately capture all items and payments on the POS system
- Record correct payment methods received from customers
- Maintain sufficient change at all times
- Process pick-ups and cash-ups accurately within set procedures
- Ensure daily takings are securely deposited into the safe or vault
- Handle transactions related to deliveries, quotes, and inter-store payments correctly
Administration
- Complete, sign, and file all required cashier documentation accurately
Ready for Business
- Follow operational standards and procedures in line with company practices
Customer Service
- Deliver fast, friendly, and efficient service at all times
- Assist customers during checkout and direct them to the appropriate staff when needed
- Maintain a professional appearance in line with company dress code
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
- Adhere to all safety regulations to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff
- Report any hazards or irregularities to the Store Manager
Security Awareness
- Maintain strict control of POS system access and passwords
- Ensure safe handling and transportation of cash according to company procedures
