Role Purpose

The Branch Manager is accountable for growing the customer base and revenue of Sanlam Retail Mass by developing and executing an effective retail branch strategy. The role provides leadership to branch teams, drives sales performance, embeds a strong service culture, and ensures operational excellence, compliance, and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Branch Strategy and Business Growth

  • Develop, implement, and manage the retail branch strategy and business plans.
  • Grow customer base and revenue through effective sales and service execution.
  • Standardise, integrate, and align branch activities, goals, and objectives with overall strategy.
  • Build and sustain a strong service delivery culture to ensure an exceptional client experience.

Sales and Service Leadership

  • Lead and motivate Sales Consultants to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Ensure consistent retail branch sales delivery and high-quality in-branch service.
  • Establish and drive a performance-driven and client-centric culture.

Operations, Compliance and Risk Management

  • Oversee the daily operational management of the branch.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance, quality standards, and risk management frameworks.
  • Maintain alignment with regulatory requirements, policies, and internal controls.

People Management

  • Manage all people-related practices for direct reports in collaboration with HR.
  • Drive talent management, performance management, development, and succession planning.
  • Address grievances, manage leave, capacity planning, and workforce effectiveness.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Identify and manage key internal and external stakeholders, including Area Managers, Business Owners, activation sites, and community forums.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships through effective engagement strategies.

Planning and Reporting

  • Conduct monthly planning and reporting on sales, service, and operational performance.
  • Use data and analytics to inform decision-making and track branch performance.

Education and Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12).
  • RE1 and RE5.
  • 120 Wealth Management credits or an FSCA-recognised tertiary qualification.
  • Class of Business accreditation (annual).
  • Fully compliant with current and previous CPD requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent industry experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven service management experience.
  • Insurance sales experience.
  • Credit and lending experience.

  • In-depth understanding of regulatory frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Knowledge of Sanlam insurance products is advantageous.

  • Computer literacy with data, analytics, and data visualisation skills.
  • Project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
