Purpose of the Job
Value Logistics is seeking a qualified Boilermaker to fabricate and assemble metal components used in truck bodies. The role requires precision, strong technical expertise, and strict adherence to safety procedures. The Boilermaker will also perform repairs, maintain workshop equipment, and work closely with team members to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Metal Fabrication and Welding
- Cut, shape, and assemble metal components with high accuracy
- Operate fabrication tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears efficiently
- Perform appropriate welding techniques to achieve precise and durable results
- Keep up to date with modern welding and fabrication technologies
- Select suitable materials according to project specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand job requirements
- Measure and mark metal components accurately to ensure correct alignment and fitment
- Repair damaged truck body components and perform routine maintenance tasks
Quality Control and Safety Compliance
- Inspect finished work to ensure it meets required quality standards
- Follow all safety procedures and workplace guidelines
- Maintain and clean welding and fabrication equipment regularly
- Identify and resolve issues within the fabrication process
Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate daily tasks
- Work closely with foremen and managers to maintain high-quality output
- Complete assigned duties within project deadlines
- Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on projects
Panelshop Operations
- Review job cards or quotations to determine the required work
- Inspect the vehicle against the job card to identify parts that need to be ordered
- Check for any additional damage during inspection
- Order necessary parts and follow up when required
- Verify that ordered parts are correct and undamaged
- Ensure all components requiring paint are sent to the paint shop with the vehicle
- Strip and reassemble the vehicle as required
- Ensure proper panel alignment and correct fitment of all parts
- Conduct a final inspection to confirm the work meets high-quality standards
- Perform a physical check to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Red Seal Trade Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant workshop experience
Skills Requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail to ensure precise measurements and proper alignment
- Strong safety awareness and strict adherence to safety procedures
- Proficiency in cutting, shaping, and welding metal components
- Skilled use of fabrication tools including plasma cutters, grinders, and shears
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and technical specifications
