Artisan Vibration Equipment Mechanician Gr 2 – Sasol Careers

Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Vibration Equipment Mechanician Gr 2 supports production by maintaining, monitoring, and optimising instrumentation and vibration equipment to ensure plant reliability, stability, and sustainability. The role involves fault finding, calibration, and equipment upgrades while adhering to safety standards, procedures, and codes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform effective maintenance and calibration on instrumentation and vibration monitoring equipment
• Conduct fault finding and troubleshooting on vibration and instrumentation systems
• Implement modifications and upgrades on existing instrumentation and vibration installations
• Carry out loop checks, alarm and trip verifications, and technical inspections
• Ensure continuous equipment availability and reliability through planned maintenance
• Identify and recommend opportunities for equipment optimisation
• Apply knowledge of trip and alarm systems, DCS, PLC, FSC navigation, and intrinsic safety
• Demonstrate basic process knowledge and ensure compliance with plant safety, SHE, and process safety systems
• Read, interpret, and implement task risk assessments, drawings, and emergency procedures
• Participate in daily morning meetings and provide feedback on work progress to supervisors and planners
• Support maintenance strategy and contribute to the overall direction of the discipline
• Assist in the development of work instructions and knowledge sharing with junior artisans
• Participate in root cause analyses (RCAs), PDAs, and My IMS inspections to enhance plant safety and reliability
• Lead and coordinate team efforts where applicable and act as group leader if aligned with career path
• Mentor learners and junior artisans informally to develop skills and competency
• Maintain housekeeping, adhere to waste disposal procedures, and follow all safety standards
• Record accurate equipment history feedback to support renewals, upgrades, and critical spare replacement
• Provide input during toolbox talks to improve plant safety and operational awareness

Minimum Qualifications

• Matric/N3 with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science
• CHIETA Occupational Qualification (Instrumentation Red Seal)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in instrumentation or vibration equipment maintenance

Licensing Requirement

• Valid Driver’s License
