Job Summary
Affinity Health Vacancies is seeking an Actuarial Analyst to support the Actuarial Valuations team, a critical function responsible for financial reporting, reserving, capital monitoring, and strategic analysis. The role offers exposure to actuarial modelling, data management, and insight-driven decision-making within a life insurance environment.

Key Responsibilities

Valuations and Reporting

  • Assist with the calculation of technical provisions and preparation of internal valuation reports
  • Support the documentation of actuarial assumptions, methodologies, and processes
  • Contribute to experience investigations, assumption setting, and reserve movement analysis
  • Assist with regulatory submissions and statutory returns, including QRT and ORSA

Actuarial Data Management

  • Maintain and enhance actuarial data assets and the actuarial data warehouse
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across actuarial datasets
  • Analyse large datasets to identify trends, insights, and anomalies
  • Develop and monitor data validation metrics to ensure data integrity
  • Build and maintain ETL processes from core business systems

Modelling and Analysis

  • Support actuarial models for forecasting, stress testing, and scenario analysis
  • Assist in maintaining and updating reserving and forecasting models
  • Provide analytical support for product reviews, business planning, and management reporting
  • Analyse the financial impact of business decisions, product changes, and external events

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate actuarial results clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations for senior management and committees
  • Collaborate with finance, risk, auditors, and business teams to align data and reporting requirements

Candidate Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related, SAQA-accredited qualification
  • Demonstrated progress toward actuarial qualification with the Actuarial Society of South Africa or a recognised international body

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ actuarial experience within a life insurance environment
  • Exposure to SAM, IFRS 17, or similar regulatory frameworks is advantageous

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with data extraction using SQL
  • Modelling experience in R or Python
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality documentation
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
