Accountant – Anova Vacancies

Main Purpose of the Role
The Accountant is responsible for managing core accounting functions and supervising accounting administration staff to ensure full compliance with organisational financial policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Support management with the preparation of annual project budgets.
• Monitor project cash flow requirements and proactively flag shortfalls and risks.
• Prepare and submit weekly cash flow movement reports for all projects to the Finance Manager.

Financial Management, Review and Reporting

• Ensure monthly donor reports are prepared and submitted within required deadlines.
• Enforce compliance with authorisation, recording, and reconciliation procedures by accounting administration staff.
• Initiate daily payment batches on the accounting system to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare and submit monthly consolidated VAT returns to the Finance Manager.
• Support management with accounting system upgrades and enhancements.
• Review and update financial reports to meet donor and statutory reporting requirements.

General Ledger and Accounts Payable

• Verify and initiate daily Accounts Payable payments, ensuring accurate allocation and completeness.
• Ensure all reconciling items from the prior month are cleared and resolved within agreed timelines.
• Oversee weekly reconciliation and reimbursement of petty cash, project fuel cards, and credit cards.

Cash Management and Banking

• Monitor balances and replenish credit cards, project fuel cards, and Amex cards.
• Process requests for foreign currency payments in line with policy.
• Liaise with bank representatives regarding company cards and related banking services.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

• BCom Degree in Accounting with completed articles.

Experience and Skills

• Minimum of five years’ experience in an Accountant role, including experience managing finance staff.
• Strong knowledge of financial accounting policies and procedures.
• Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Pastel Evolution or similar accounting systems.
