Purpose of the Job
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the full picking function and inventory control within the warehouse. This role manages both permanent and outsourced pickers, ensuring processes are followed, productivity targets are met, and customer orders are accurately picked and delivered on time. The Warehouse Supervisor ensures efficiency, safety, compliance, and system-driven operations while supporting the wider warehouse team to deliver reliable and cost-effective service.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Supervise, guide, and support both permanent and outsourced picking staff
- Maintain a disciplined, controlled, and efficient working environment
- Conduct daily check-ins on progress, productivity, and challenges
- Ensure all picking follows warehouse processes and standards
- Verify correct stock selection from the appropriate bays using system-driven picking
- Perform random accuracy checks to maintain high picking standards
- Meet required productivity targets for picking output
- Coordinate with warehouse planners to align picking with dispatch schedules
- Ensure timely completion of picking to avoid delays, extra transport costs, and customer service issues
- Monitor equipment such as pallet jacks and handheld scanners for proper functioning
- Ensure administrative processes within the picking area are followed
- Report daily on productivity, progress, challenges, and accuracy
- Maintain accurate records of staff performance and deviations from processes
Warehouse Supervision
- Lead, train, and motivate picking staff
- Enforce company policies, Health & Safety regulations, and disciplinary procedures
- Conduct regular team meetings and toolbox talks
- Provide feedback for continuous improvement
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory
- Track KPIs including order accuracy, picking timelines, and stock discrepancies
- Maintain documentation for internal and external audit compliance
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards
- Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean and safe warehouse environment at all times
- Ensure aisles, picking areas, and storage zones are free of obstructions and hazards
- Implement daily housekeeping schedules for staff
- Monitor hygiene and safety compliance, including waste and packaging disposal
- Conduct regular inspections to address risks or cleanliness issues
- Ensure tools, equipment, and PPE are stored correctly and in good condition
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred)
- Picking experience in a warehouse environment
- Supervisory or team-leader experience
Skills Requirements
- Strong supervisory and people-management skills
- Knowledge of WMS, MS Office, and inventory control practices
- Good literacy and numeracy
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- System-driven and process-oriented mindset
