Job Description
The Direct Entry Captain at FlySafair Careers is accountable for the safe, secure, and efficient operation of company aircraft in strict compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, standard operating procedures, and the Operations Manual. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgement, and exceptional technical competence to ensure operational excellence and passenger safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure safe and efficient aircraft operations in full compliance with regulatory and company requirements
• Exercise full command authority in all operational decisions, prioritising safety at all times
• Conduct thorough pre-flight preparation, including aircraft inspections, weather assessment, route planning, and systems checks
• Operate and navigate the aircraft during all phases of flight, managing normal and non-normal operations in coordination with ATC and crew
• Maintain high standards of technical proficiency and flying skills
• Lead, support, and coordinate the flight crew, fostering professionalism, teamwork, and positive morale
• Communicate effectively with ATC, dispatch, ground personnel, and passengers to ensure smooth operations
• Monitor aircraft performance, mass and balance, fuelling, and operational documentation to ensure compliance and airworthiness
• Manage operational time pressures to support On-Time Performance while maintaining safety as the overriding priority
• Represent FlySafair Careers professionally, maintaining exemplary standards of conduct, discipline, and appearance

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (essential)
• Valid ATPL licence (essential)
• Minimum 5,000 total flight hours with at least 2,000 hours PIC on aircraft over 50 tons, or 5,000 total hours with 1,000 hours PIC on B737 or similar aircraft (essential)
• Recent experience within the past 24 months as Pilot-in-Command on a large commercial aircraft operated under Part 121 (essential)
• Medically fit with no conditions impacting Captain duties (essential)
• Ability to work irregular and rostered hours (essential)
• Willingness to sign an Upgrade Training Bond (essential)
• Sound knowledge of ATC airspace and procedures
• Strong understanding of South African CARS and CATS
• Working knowledge of ICAO Doc 8168
• Excellent knowledge of the FlySafair Operations Manual and Boeing SOPs, including normal and non-normal procedures
