Main Purpose of the Role
The Senior Manager, Sales is responsible for recruiting, leading, and developing a high-performance sales team focused on new business acquisition and client retention. The primary objective is to drive sustainable growth of the Gauteng branch by achieving agreed new business and retention targets while strengthening client-centric relationships.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Freight Forwarding.
- At least 7 years’ client-facing experience in new business development, trade lane management, or client retention.
- Reliable personal transport.
- Valid, unendorsed Code 08 driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as required.
Qualifications
- Matric qualification is essential.
- Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, or Logistics Management qualification will be advantageous, or equivalent relevant work experience.
Computer Packages
- Proficiency in CargoWise One.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including Teams, OneNote, Forms, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive business retention through continuous growth, innovation, and value creation, ensuring strong client-centric relationships.
- Lead and manage the sales team in alignment with company strategy across all business units.
- Protect and grow existing profitable client accounts through structured account management processes.
- Achieve growth of the existing client base through timely and appropriate pricing and service strategies.
- Develop industry- and product-specific solutions and best practices to position DSV as a market leader.
- Manage team performance through clear metrics to ensure profitable growth, service excellence, and client satisfaction.
- Recruit, coach, and develop high-performing sales professionals to support service excellence.
- Compile and manage budgets to enable accurate forecasting and effective sales and operational planning.
- Deliver new business and retention growth in line with branch objectives.
- Lead and develop a high-performance new business sales team.
- Manage and improve Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) performance.
- Coach and support field sales teams to achieve new business targets through the acquisition of profitable clients.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the Gauteng region.
- Analyze market trends and provide high-quality sales leads to the team.
- Lead prospecting initiatives, sales blitzes, and targeted campaigns in collaboration with trade lane and origin sales teams.
- Support the preparation and delivery of professional proposals, tenders, and client presentations.
- Ensure monthly and cumulative sales targets are achieved.
- Compile and oversee weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales and performance reports.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and governance standards.
- Maintain high activity levels and effective sales discipline across the team.
- Build strong industry and product knowledge to deliver value to clients and the organization.
- Foster a high-energy, motivated, and collaborative team culture.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure clients are informed of relevant industry developments.
- Contribute to overall company growth while supporting continuous personal and team development.
