Job Description
The Junior First Officer at FlySafair Careers supports the Captain in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of company aircraft. This role requires strong technical competence, situational awareness, and teamwork to uphold the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct flights safely, efficiently, and in accordance with schedules
• Monitor aircraft systems, performance, and flight path throughout all phases of flight
• Perform all required pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and procedures
• Operate and navigate the aircraft in compliance with regulations and company procedures
• Communicate effectively with internal departments, service providers, ATC, and passengers
• Ensure adherence to SACAA regulations, company policies, SOPs, and the Operations Manual
• Deliver excellent customer service in line with the company’s service standards
• Complete accurate administrative documentation and operational reports
• Identify and report safety risks, working collaboratively with the Captain and Operations
• Assume command of the aircraft in the event of Captain incapacitation
• Maintain current knowledge of SACAA, ICAO, and applicable international aviation regulations
• Assist the Captain with operational and administrative flight duties
• Support the Captain in maintaining high standards of crew discipline, professionalism, and appearance
• Execute assigned duties in accordance with FlySafair SOPs, aircraft limitations, and performance requirements
• Continuously verify safe navigation, terrain clearance, and adherence to the planned flight path
• Provide timely advice and information to the Captain to support safe and efficient operations
• Remain fully familiar with the planned route, briefings, weather conditions, and destination and alternate aerodrome requirements
• Review and verify flight documentation, fuel planning, alternates, and operational limitations with the Captain
• Perform or monitor normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures in line with the OM, FCOM, and FCTM
• Monitor flight instruments and procedures, immediately advising the Captain of deviations, hazards, or abnormal indications
• Conduct radio communications as required
• Complete all post-flight procedures and submit required documentation and reports

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (essential)
• SACAA Commercial Pilot Licence (essential)
• Valid SACAA Class 1 Medical Certificate (essential)
• SACAA ATPL (preferred)
• Boeing aircraft type rating (advantageous)
• Minimum of 1,000 total flight hours with one of the following:
  • At least 500 hours twin turbine (P1/P2) on aircraft under 10,000 kg, or
  • Boeing or Airbus type rating, including Level D simulator time, or
  • At least 250 hours jet or turbine time on aircraft over 10,000 kg
• Willingness to sign applicable training bonds
• No criminal record
• Valid South African driver’s licence with own transport
• South African citizenship with valid identity document
• Valid South African passport
• Willingness to work irregular rostered hours
• Strong knowledge of SACAA, ICAO, and national aviation regulations
• Knowledge of ICAO Doc 8168 (essential)
• Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot licensing content
• Language proficiency at Level 6
