Accountant

Anova Vacancies are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to manage accounting functions and oversee accounting administration staff, ensuring strict adherence to the organisation’s financial policies and procedures. This role combines financial management, reporting, and team supervision to support efficient project and organisational operations.

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Assist management in preparing annual project budgets
• Monitor project cash flow and advise management on any shortfalls
• Submit weekly cash flow movement reports for all projects to the Finance Manager

Financial Management, Review, and Reporting

• Ensure monthly donor reports are submitted on time according to project requirements
• Oversee the accounting administration staff to ensure compliance with authorisation, recording, and reconciliation procedures
• Initiate daily payment batches on the accounting system and verify accuracy
• Prepare and submit monthly consolidated VAT returns to the Finance Manager
• Assist management with upgrades or changes to the accounting system
• Review and update financial reports in line with donor and statutory requirements

General Ledger and Accounts Payable

• Verify and process daily accounts payable payments and ensure accuracy of allocations
• Ensure all reconciling items for the previous month are cleared and resolved
• Reconcile petty cash accounts, project fuel cards, and credit cards weekly and ensure timely reimbursement

Cash Management

• Monitor and replenish company credit cards, fuel cards, and Amex cards
• Process foreign currency payment requests
• Liaise with bank representatives regarding company cards

Qualifications and Experience

• BCom Degree in Accounting and completion of articles
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accounting role, with experience managing finance staff preferred
• Strong knowledge of financial accounting policies and procedures
• Ability to operate in a dynamic environment
• Experience with Pastel Evolution or similar accounting systems
