Role Overview

The Area Manager Clothing is responsible for overseeing the execution of operational standards, people management, promotional activity, financial controls, administration, and maintenance across Clothing departments within corporate stores. This role ensures consistent delivery of brand standards, strong commercial performance, and an exceptional customer experience.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric), N3 equivalent, or a recognised Clothing or Fashion qualification.
  • 5–8 years’ experience in an Area Manager role, preferably within the clothing retail sector.
  • Strong understanding of merchandising principles and fashion trends.
  • Proven leadership and team development capability.
  • Computer literacy with the ability to analyse and interpret reports.
  • SAP knowledge is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, support, and develop Managers, Supervisors, and Crew across assigned stores.
  • Recruit, manage, and retain high-performing teams.
  • Identify training needs and provide coaching and on-the-job development.
  • Manage employee relations matters, including discipline and performance management.
  • Foster a positive, productive, and values-driven work environment.

Operational & Commercial Performance

  • Implement strategies to drive sales, margin, and overall business performance.
  • Ensure operational efficiency and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Analyse performance results and implement action plans to address gaps.
  • Oversee stock take planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Approve store Kronos schedules and monitor overtime costs.

Merchandising & Store Standards

  • Ensure visual merchandising standards are consistently executed.
  • Monitor staff appearance, housekeeping, and back-up area standards.
  • Ensure correct merchandising of new lines in line with dispatch guidelines.
  • Monitor total range displays and promotional execution.
  • Ensure promotion and display standards are maintained at all times.

Customer Service & Brand Standards

  • Monitor customer service standards and ensure a customer-first culture.
  • Communicate expected standards and processes clearly to store teams.
  • Ensure consistent execution of Pick n Pay Clothing brand standards.

Administration, Compliance & Maintenance

  • Ensure administrative, trade, and people checks align with business standards.
  • Monitor and authorise general maintenance requirements within stores.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and operational requirements.
