The Packaging Team Leader is responsible for leading the SBU in executing the production plan, ensuring quality control and analysis, performing autonomous maintenance tasks, and resolving production challenges while coaching and developing the team for peak performance.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Operating and Process Control
- Ensure the SBU adheres to operational, quality, and process standards, work instructions, maintenance schedules, and performance targets
- Mentor, support, and coach team members in task execution and process compliance
- Monitor process performance, verify quality checks, and ensure accurate recording of information in relevant systems
- Review and sign off shift performance, completing all administrative tasks supporting the production team
- Decide on actions to resolve escalated production problems, involving specialist resources as required
- Conduct training needs analysis, one-on-one sessions, and performance reviews to develop the team
- Initiate corrective actions where training gaps are identified
- Drive performance management, set team goals, and review targets regularly
- Ensure end-of-shift reports, QFR, 5 Why, and Abnormality reports are completed according to triggers
Maintenance of Plant and Equipment
- Ensure the team carries out autonomous maintenance tasks and running repairs according to work instructions and schedules
- Mentor and coach operators in maintenance activities while supporting process artisans and maintenance specialists
- Participate in maintenance and cleaning days, post-mortems, and planning meetings
- Provide guidance for escalated maintenance issues and call in additional resources if required
Quality Control and Analyses
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and verify routine quality checks and analyses by team members
- Perform quality trend analysis to identify issues and opportunities, escalating to appropriate resources as required
- Initiate FFA where quality trends indicate and involve relevant SBU members in corrective actions
Communication
- Prepare for and lead daily shift meetings using standard agendas, ensuring active team participation
- Record issues and opportunities in the gap list with assigned accountabilities
- Communicate production schedules, shift performance, and quality updates to the team
- Conduct handover meetings with incoming shift leaders, ensuring all operational, quality, and housekeeping issues are communicated
Problem Solving
- Coach and mentor team members in using problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5 Why, Quick Fix)
- Decide on appropriate actions for escalated problems and ensure resolution
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Instrumentation, Chemical, or Process)
- 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing industries
- Completed Packaging Traineeship, ABInBev Leadership, or Artisan Training (planning experience is an advantage)
- Proven shift production expertise with a strong track record in discipline, problem-solving, and continuous improvement
