Main Purpose of the Role
The Business Controller is responsible for analyzing profit and loss performance above EBITDA and ensuring accurate, reliable monthly management accounts for the business unit. This role drives profitability, financial performance, and sound decision-making by acting as a trusted finance business partner to operations, supporting management with objective financial insights, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic analysis.
Tertiary Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Computer Literacy Level
- Advanced proficiency.

- SAP ERP
- SAP SAC
- Advanced Microsoft Excel
Job-Related Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial controlling or accounting, preferably within the logistics industry.
- Proven experience as a finance business partner with the ability to support and guide non-financial managers.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with a sound understanding of financial statements and IFRS.
- High attention to detail with a logical and analytical mindset.
- Ability to deliver accurate results within tight deadlines.
- Capability to influence and indirectly supervise stakeholders across multiple departments.
- Strong focus on financial controls, governance, and process adherence.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours when required.
- Proactive, self-motivated team player with strong initiative.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
Added Advantages
- ACCA, CIMA, or CA(SA) qualification, or progress toward one of these, will be advantageous.
- Previous experience in a Shared Services finance environment.
- Experience in Contract Logistics or Warehousing operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly management accounts using SAP ERP and SAP SAC, including detailed variance analysis and commentary.
- Analyze site financial results and recommend initiatives to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate and manage the budgeting process, preparing P&L budgets using SAP SAC tools.
- Prepare rolling forecasts for business review and submission to regional or group management.
- Review and improve processes related to work-in-progress estimates and gross profit calculations.
- Reconcile billing systems with financial systems and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor EBIT performance and provide accurate month-end forecasts.
- Prepare and present financial reports, including sales performance and client profitability analysis.
- Act as the primary liaison between the Shared Services Centre and Operations.
- Drive working capital improvements in collaboration with business stakeholders.
- Validate SAP controlling structures and coordinate updates with regional teams.
- Analyze and report on staff costs, headcount, and FTE metrics.
- Participate in local management meetings, representing finance and Shared Services.
- Ensure compliance with financial processes across both finance and operational teams.
- Support local and group statutory audits by providing accurate and timely information.
- Prepare and present special financial reports, including board packs and executive presentations.
- Support strategic decision-making through scenario modeling, simulations, and business case development.
- Conduct regular controller reviews and internal audits, reporting findings and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Drive ongoing profitability and performance improvements through financial reviews, training, and operational support.
