About the Role
- The General Assistant is responsible for delivering excellent customer service within the store
- Ensure effective merchandising, accurate shelf price labelling, and proper housekeeping in the assigned area
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Assist customers with product selection and provide accurate information
- Respond to customer queries in a helpful and professional manner
- Resolve customer complaints efficiently
Merchandising Standards
- Ensure bulk stock is displayed safely according to the store layout plan
- Maintain shelves in line with merchandising standards and planograms
- Keep the assigned area fully stocked and visually appealing
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, safe, and obstacle-free working environment
- Ensure stock is packed and displayed immediately after receiving
- Verify correct shelf price labelling at all times
- Complete required checklists, including canteen and restroom schedules
Safety (OHSA) Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures and use protective equipment where required
- Ensure a safe environment for customers and colleagues
- Maintain safe stock placement in racking and bulk areas
- Report any safety risks or discrepancies to the Store Manager
Stock Loss Control
- Report damaged or missing stock to the Store Manager promptly
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year relevant experience, or Grade 12 with no experience
- Good communication skills in English and the dominant local language
- Valid South African ID or work permit
- Ability to perform basic calculations accurately
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
