Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for conducting routine tyre maintenance, tyre breakdown assistance, and tyre surveys across various operational sites for the Value fleet of vehicles. The role requires travelling to different locations to inspect tyres, maintain proper tyre conditions, and ensure accurate reporting while adhering to company safety standards and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Management
• Ensure tyre stock is secured and locked at all times
• Assist with daily investigation and reporting of stock discrepancies
• Support monthly tyre stock cycle counts
Tyre Surveys
• Travel to operational sites as required to conduct tyre inspections
• Prioritise vehicle tyre surveys and maintenance according to the fleet list provided by the supervisor
• Conduct daily tyre surveys using the tyre management system and use manual documentation if the system is unavailable
• Capture accurate tyre information including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth readings
• Ensure all fleet vehicles are surveyed and tyre pressures are checked and corrected at least once per month
• Inspect spare wheels and report missing spare wheels to the supervisor
• Mark spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification
• Ensure wheel nuts are properly torqued and wheel nut securing indicators are installed
• Fit wheel nut indicators where they are missing
• Take photographs of scrap tyres and submit them to the supervisor
• Communicate daily with the supervisor regarding surveyed vehicles, tyre issues identified, and outstanding vehicles to be surveyed
Tyre Branding
• Report tyres without brand numbers to the supervisor
• Apply tyre branding according to the provided tyre listing
Tyre Replacement
• Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres according to standard operating procedures
• Complete tyre change slips accurately and on time
• Submit tyre change documentation to the supervisor daily
Tyre Rotations
• Rotate tyres according to matching tread patterns
• Ensure tyre change documentation is completed accurately and submitted daily
Breakdown Assistance
• Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is equipped with the correct tyre sizes and quantities before responding to breakdowns
• Travel to breakdown sites and attend to tyre-related issues promptly
• Handle breakdown situations with urgency while following driving regulations and company policies
• Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation for tyres removed and fitted
• Return damaged or punctured tyres to the depot and hand them over with documentation to the supervisor
Company Equipment and Assets
• Store tyre maintenance tablets securely when not in use and at the end of each shift
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and submit checklists to the supervisor
• Ensure company vehicles are parked securely and locked when not in use
• Return vehicle keys to the supervisor for secure storage after each shift
• Report any accidents or vehicle damage to the supervisor immediately
• Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and in working order
• Submit weekly tyre bay tool checklists to the supervisor
• Report defective tools or equipment immediately
Housekeeping
• Maintain a clean and organised work environment
• Ensure company vehicles remain clean and properly maintained
Health and Safety
• Follow all health and safety regulations while performing duties
• Use the required personal protective equipment at all times
• Report any health and safety concerns or near-miss incidents to the supervisor immediately
General Responsibilities
• Comply with all company procedures and policies including SOPs, training requirements, HR policies, POPIA policies, dress code, smoking rules, and attendance guidelines
• Provide assistance with additional operational tasks when required
• Be available to work weekends when operational needs require
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Valid Code B driver’s licence
• 1 to 2 years of experience working with heavy-duty tyres
• Physically capable of lifting heavy objects and performing manual work
