Boilermaker – Value Logistics
Purpose of the Role
The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating and assembling metal components used in truck bodies while ensuring precision, durability, and quality workmanship. The role involves welding, repairs, equipment maintenance, and accurate documentation of completed work. The Boilermaker works closely with team members to meet project deadlines while maintaining strict safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Metal Fabrication and Welding
• Cut, shape, and assemble metal components accurately according to specifications
• Operate fabrication tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears efficiently
• Perform various welding techniques to complete fabrication tasks with precision
• Stay updated with modern welding and fabrication techniques and technologies
• Select appropriate materials based on project requirements and specifications
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand job requirements
• Measure and mark metal components accurately to ensure proper alignment and fit
• Conduct repairs on damaged truck body components and perform routine maintenance tasks
Quality Control and Safety Compliance
• Inspect completed work thoroughly to ensure it meets required quality standards
• Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines
• Maintain and clean welding and fabrication equipment regularly
• Identify and troubleshoot issues during the fabrication process
Collaboration and Communication
• Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and workflows
• Work closely with supervisors and managers to ensure high-quality results
• Complete assigned tasks within required project timelines
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, including materials used and time spent
Panelshop Operations
• Review job cards or quotations to determine the required work
• Inspect the vehicle against the job card to confirm the scope of work
• Identify and report any additional damage
• Order necessary parts and follow up when required
• Verify that ordered parts are correct and free from damage
• Ensure all parts requiring paint are sent to the paint shop with the vehicle
• Strip and reassemble vehicle components as required
• Ensure proper panel alignment and correct fitment of parts
• Conduct final checks to confirm that work is completed to a high standard
• Perform a final physical inspection to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Red Seal Trade Certificate
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant workshop experience
Skills and Competencies
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements, alignment, and high-quality workmanship
• High level of safety awareness and strict adherence to safety procedures
• Proficiency in cutting, shaping, and welding metal components
• Skilled use of fabrication tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, and shears
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
